Primary Sludge Pumps | What you Should Know

With tough sludge pumping applications like those found at municipal Wastewater Treatment Facilities, (WWTP’s) having the right primary sludge pumps can help reduce hassles and your spare parts budget down the road. This was just the case for the City of Meridian’s recent wastewater treatment facility upgrade and expansion in Meridian, Idaho.

The City of Meridian has utilized ball check technology for years to help move tough sewage and sludge. Ball check technology enabled pumps have moved trillions of gallons of raw sewage worldwide for over 50 years and is the back bone of Wastecorp’s plunger pump, profe read more

How to Replace a Dry Prime Trash Pump

As a pump manufacturer, we have seen a surge in end users and pump distributors inquiring about alternatives to dry prime pumps mounted on either a skid or wheels. Some have complained about the repair parts and service needed for dry prime pumps. Others aren’t thrilled about the big box multinational pump manufacturers’ aggressive pushes of this type of product as one of the “only” solutions for trash pump style dry prime pumps. Jake R. from Milwaukee, WI describes a common application for trash pumps below:

“We are researching replacement pumps for our fleet of 25 dry prime style trash pumps for use across our facilities in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Indiana. One of our applications involves the pump transferring water from a river into two holding ponds. We use the ponds to read more

Pumping Stringy Material at Wastewater Plants

Any wastewater treatment plant operator will typically tell you that one of the biggest hassles they face daily is pumping stringy material from a variety of sources. The problem here is that the material tends to get stuck in the impellers of trash pumps and wreak havoc on lobe pumps. Phil from Clyde, Texas tells us about his quest to find a better solution:

“A buddy of mine has been using your Mud Sucker diaphragm pumps at a public works facility down the road from me and we are considering the same. Our WWTP pumps a lot of stringy material from mops and unknown fibrous material. We are using non clog trash pumps now but make no mistake, the impeller still gets clogged. We need something better. We have seen diaphragms used on honey wagons to pump all sorts of material and they have worked. We work with less than 5% solids and need to pump around 100 GPM with a TDH of about 15’. What do you recommend and what do I need to budget?” – Phil H. Clyde, Texas

Phil, we hear about this complaint from WWTP’s all the time that “non-clog trash pumps” are not quite non-clog. What we suggest for municipalities with stringy material issues is the read more
